Self-hypnosis at the Dental Office

A SHORT STORY ABOUT THE POWER OF SELF-HYPNOSIS AND A ROOT CANAL

No one ever looks forward to having a root canal, and I am no different.

I was scheduled for a procedure on a bottom molar, which is a little more difficult to do.
I was sitting in the dentist's chair, eyes closed and in my mind, I started talking to myself.
(Now, this is what I do everyday with my clients, and here I am doing this for myself.)

I started by telling myself that my dentist and his assistant where there to help me, that they were good people.
And then I started to watch my body, noticing that my hands were clenched, so I said. "Shoshanah, relax your hands.  Shoshanah, take in a deep breath and start to relax."
I went through my entire body always saying my name and then telling myself to relax.
I was very happy to notice that I was becoming totally relaxed.

Then my dentist told me there was going to be some very loud noises as he started the procedure.
I told myself that the noises would be of help, that they would take me deeper into a pleasant state of hypnosis.

Almost immediately the sounds became a vision of being out in the mountains, with a very large tree, and all of the limbs were covered with crows, and the crows were all excited about something, talking and squawking to each other.
As the dentist worked, I was happily in the forest listening to crows.

This is the power of self-hypnosis.
We all can learn to do this, to be in our own power.
